‘Human beings are creatures of feelings. The outside world as well as our inner world create waves of emotion taking us on journeys of transformation. Through my images I have been able to express the emotions that have washed through me, pulling me this way and that, like a spinning Sycamore seed in the wind. This simple bland ‘Grey Jumper’ is the pivot in the visual spectrum of the joy and pain I had felt at times…’
‘The Grey Jumper’ is a set of images that playfully manipulate a limited set of objects comprising a settee, a chair, a grey jumper and a human body.
The body is objectified giving it anonymity. Its face is concealed from the viewer, either turned away or is absent from the frame. Never does it confront the viewer directly but draws attention to itself by the ingenious variety of shapes it creates. There is a sense of both lightness and weightiness which is formed through the use of translucent and opaque tones.
The greyness reinforces anonymity and enhances the materiality of the body and lends into the limited tonal ranges of the photographs. The acute awareness of the framing draws attention to the constructed nature of the image.
